I was introduced to Thomas Merton while majoring in Sociology in the 1970 s I suppose being somewhat familiar with him is helpful, but not entirely necessary I received the book as a Goodreads giveaway and, while this review is a very personal one, I recommend the book The conflicts with his Abbot, James Fox brought out insight and creativity I would not want to have been him but I certainly appreciated and grew from reading about him.
Lipsey is a wonderful writer, and he is backed with solid research to make this a very captivating read The last few chapters are particularly magnificent.
